Pitt Panthers Triumph Over Providence Friars in Exhibition Match
The Pitt Panthers secured an impressive 81-74 victory against the Providence Friars in their first exhibition game of the season at the Petersen Events Center. After facing an early deficit of 18-6, Pitt rallied back with a strong performance, outscoring Providence 35-13 to take a 41-31 lead by halftime. Key to this turnaround was the team's improved defense, limiting Providence to a mere 25% shooting after the initial lead.
Fifth-year guard Damarco Minor, a newcomer to Pitt, demonstrated significant leadership, scoring 15 points and contributing to the team's overall success. His performance was praised by the opposing coach, who noted Minor's ability to command the game effectively. Additionally, all nine Pitt players who participated in the game scored, showcasing a balanced offensive effort. Although they struggled with 3-point shooting, their efficiency inside the arc and at the free-throw line was notable. Head coach Jeff Capel emphasized the importance of team readiness and collective contribution as they prepare for the upcoming season.
